What got you here won’t get you there
“That’s the paradox of success: the beliefs that carried us here may be holding us back in our quest to go there.” — Marshall Goldsmith
Goldsmith was a renowned executive coach with a Ph.D. in organizational behavior. He realized that successful people usually held beliefs that were useful in getting them to one level but would hurt them in their pursuit of the next level.
And that’s still very true today.
Matt Cameron believes the same is true about Nearbound success.
What I’m seeing is, with all the fabulous technology we have now, the deep insight we have in terms of the plays that need to be run. The one thing that people aren’t thinking about and, and possibly a core reason they’re failing is because the competencies of the individuals don’t match the demands of the game now. We need to train the mind so that we can execute the plays.
To get to the next level, sellers need to evolve their competencies to match the new demands of the game.
An outbound mindset doesn’t get you Nearbound success.
How to create organizational change
When things aren’t working, do you start over from ground zero or try to reorganize?
If you’re reading about Nearbound and the excitement is building, you might be tempted to come into your organization with a wrecking ball (or at least that’s how it’ll feel to others).
Starting over is tempting, but before you do that, I’ll explain why it might not be the best way to get a Nearbound strategy adopted in your organization.
Every dedicated sports fan knows the anxiety that sets in when a sports team starts to hit a ceiling. It’s a sign that the team will soon undergo an attempted facelift.
The team will either be reorganized or rebuilt.
A rebuild almost never works.
But a new coach or offensive coordinator who can come in, see the valuable pieces, and start placing them in positions where they can bring success to the team often does.
Likewise, most organizations don’t actually need a complete rebuild.
They just need someone to go in there and be the coach. They need someone to see where players can be more valuable, and then guide them to create that value.
Get those early quick wins, and coach, you’re in business!
The ultimate Nearbound magic
Scott Brinker posted to Twitter to share the news about Google Bard’s new extensions.
"You can collaborate with the world’s information and your own, all in one place," shared the announcement video.
Google is setting the pace on interconnectivity and ease. To compete, other companies will have to turn to partnerships.
Welcome to the era of the ecosystem!
